What are you getting out of your Bible Reading?

Every morning, our children do their Bible reading before school starts--well this morning when one of my children brought their Bible to me I thought they had a question about what they were reading or they were ready to discuss what they had read; that was so NOT the case. Instead they pointed to the punctuation, it was a semi colon and the end parentheses mark. ;)

Now being a mom and their teacher I was thinking that maybe they thought that it was not punctuated right; well that was not the case either! This particular child told me that even though the Bible was written many years ago, God knew way back then about Face Book—he was making a joke. So I laughed out loud (we parents have to that you know). This ;) makes a crooked winking smiley face on Face Book for anyone that does not know.
.
Even though a joke, it is true - God knew about Face Book from the beginning of time; He knows everything that is going to happen in our future and that my friends is a very comforting thought, because he never gives us more than we can handle. He is always here in joy or in sorrow and in sorrow he carries us through.

Early Morning Spanish Class

All four of our children are taking Spanish 1 this year and the Principal is teaching it. We have been starting school every morning at 6:30, with Spanish being the first class. I think we may have to move it around a bit because Mammaw and Pappaw are coming for a visit. Woo-Hoo! I am excited about seeing them, but also very excited that we can all sleep in a bit for the next couple of days!

It's Back to School Time Here

Even though it is still summer, it is time for us to start school back. It is time for me to focus on books, lesson plans--and the much dreaded Algebra 2....yuck! But per the books they need it, so therefore I'm teaching it. I have looked ahead and the for the first month, it is a lot of reviewing---THANK YOU LORD!

We are also doing something a little different this year, my children will be starting school at 6:30 every morning and they have a new teacher, aka...Daddy!
Their first class will be Spanish 101 (at least that is what we are calling it) and my husband will be teaching it, and I must say I'm looking forward to that!

I'll still be blogging and posting deals like I normally do, back to school just means that I will be scheduling more posts, for example, I already have several posts scheduled to go live this morning; they include some great freebies and deals.

Well it is time to get my children up---Happy Monday!

Why Homeschool? HELP!

Each family chooses to home school for different reasons. Some make the decision to home school based on a religious belief, some because they themselves were home schooled as a child. Many choose to school their children based on safety reasons; or if a child has a learning disability, or even failing in school.

Regardless of the reason, when you make that decision I firmly believe that you ought to stick with it. I think that if you start out homeschooling, you ought to at least finish that year and not give up in three weeks!

If you are thinking about home schooling your children, surround yourself with the pros....people that have been doing this for a while. There are many, many websites that can help you through your journey. There are also home school groups in just about every city in the United States. Many churches have home school groups and if you happen to be in a church that doesn't have one, then start one!

I firmly believe that you cannot go wrong with home school. Now with that being said, home school is not for everyone!

Here are a few sites that I researched and had a little fun with before we ever started home schooling. I hope that they will help you.

Home School: Is It for Your Family?

Making the decision to home school can be overwhelming for some people. The uncertainty alone can be quiet mind boggling, which curriculum to use, the question "Can I really do this?"; not to mention all the legal stuff.

With us just finishing our 5th year of home school, maybe I can help with some of these. I am by no means an expert, but I can offer some of our experiences, the websites that have helped me, ideas and more.

Each state is different, and what is legal for one state will probably be different for another state. The decision to home school our children is one of our American rights, so it is legal, but each state has different laws that we must follow when homeschooling our children. HSLDA is a helpful site determining what is legal (the law)in your state.

Honey: Fun, Useful, and Educational

Spring time is coming, regardless of what it feels like outside. Which means the bees will be active soon, flying around and making honey. YUM!
Well I came across these cute little pictures (clip art), there are several that are on the site. If you home school, this would be a great science study, or in addition to what you are already doing.
.
While you are on the site, you might as well take a look at some of their recipes too.

Back to School time!

The summer is gone and it is back to school time in our home. The picture above was taken yesterday, out first day of home school! You can just see the excitement on their faces, can't you? Our girls were really excited about school starting and the boys were not!
Our oldest is in high school this year. That is so hard for me to believe. Our twins are in Junior high and our baby is in the 6th grade. Our time with our children is really flying by!

I just wanted to let you all know that since we have started our home school back that I will not be on the computer as much during the day, because I am needed else where. I will continue to blog...I LOVE IT and cannot give it up! I will be scheduling my post to post through out the day....so maybe you won't even miss me at all. :)

HAPPY SCHOOL YEAR EVERYONE!!!!
