Brazi Bites On Shark Tank this Friday Night (11/20/15)

It was the summer of 2009, in Portland, Oregon, where Junea  was having some serious cravings for Pão de Queijo, her country’s most popular snack food.

She did only what a daughter could do and called her mother in Brazil and asked for the family recipe. Her mom was excited to share the family secrets that made “the perfect cheese bread.” Junea and her husband made their first batch in their home kitchen that summer.

But they did encounter a problem--they had a hard time finding the most important ingredient from her family’s recipe, “Minas” cheese, it was not available in the United States! So they spent months trying countless cheeses, hoping to re-create the taste they loved. Finally, one day in the spring of 2010, yes, almost one year later, the most delicious cheese bread they had ever tasted came out of the oven – it was so good that they literally devoured the whole tray in minutes! And thus, Brazi Bites were born!

They were excited to share their creation with everyone, so they signed up for their first local food show. Two days before the show, we stayed up all night rolling thousands of pieces of cheese bread by hand but it simply wasn’t enough. The response was totally overwhelming and they sold out halfway through the show! At that point, they knew they had something special…

Fast forward to today....Their little cheese bread experiment became their passion, and now Brazi Bites can be found in hundreds of stores across the United States! They are as excited as they were the moment that first batch came out of the oven in their home kitchen. One bite and you’ll understand why!

Brazi Bites would make a great addition to your Thanksgiving dinner, holiday parties or Christmas dinners.

Brazi Bites will be on Shark Tank this Friday night (November 20, 2015) at 8PM (CST) and 9PM (EST) so make sure you tune in to see which shark or sharks partner with them.

You can also follow along with Brazi Bites over on their social media sites too: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Disclosure: Most of the information found in this post is from the Brazi website or their social media pages. No money exchanged hands and once I receive product I will be sharing my honest review with you, my favorite readers in the whole world! Read my disclosure policy here.

SWEET POTATO SPICED LATTE RECIPE

I have made pumpkin lattes before, but never a sweet potato latte, but here is one recipe that I will be hopefully trying in the near future.

Here's what you will need
Ingredients:
1/3 cup milk
3 tablespoons sweet potato puree
1 teaspoon maple syrup
1 shot of espresso
Dash of cinnamon

Instructions:
In a small saucepan over medium heat, warm milk gently, watching carefully to try to create some foam.
Add sweet potato puree and stir until the frothed milk turns orange.
Whisk in maple syrup. Taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking.
Make the espresso. Pour the milk and the espresso into a mug; spoon foam onto the top.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and other fall spices of your choice!

Thanks, NC Sweet Potatoes!

Sweet Potato Pie, with a Twist!

At my son's request, the first pie for Thanksgiving is in the oven. The twist to this sweet potato pie is the yogurt--it gives the pie a tart taste that will make your lips pucker.:)

Ingredients
1 pound 3 ounces sweet potatoes
1 1/4 cups plain yogurt
3/4 cup packed, dark brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
5 egg yolks (Set egg whites aside)
Salt to taste
1 (9-inch) deep dish, frozen pie shell
1 cup chopped pecans --you can use more or less
1 tablespoon maple syrup

Directions
Wash and poke hole in the sweet potatoes---cook until done. Let them cool until you can handle them and then scoop the yummy insides out into a bowl.  Mash with potato masher or fork and set aside.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F
Place sweet potatoes in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat with the paddle attachment. Add yogurt, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, yolks, and salt, to taste, and beat until well combined.

*Remember those eggs whites that you sat aside, take a basting brush and dip in the whites and coat the top rim of the pie shell---this will help keep the top rim from burning.

Pour your batter into the pie shell and place onto a sheet pan. Sprinkle pecans on top and drizzle with maple syrup.

Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until the custard reaches 165 to 180 degrees. Remove from oven and cool. Keep refrigerated after cooling.
