Sabra Classic Hummus Recall

April 8, 2015 — Colonial Heights, VA — Today Sabra Dipping Co., LLC announced that it is voluntarily recalling approximately 30,000 cases of its Classic Hummus due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This measure is limited to five SKUs of Classic Hummus sold nationwide. To date, no other Sabra product is affected by this recall.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

To date, there have been no reports indicating that these products have caused any illness.

The products being recalled are listed HERE and were distributed to retail outlets, including food service accounts and supermarkets, in the U.S. Consumers can find code and use by dates on the top of each package.

Almost 9 Million Pounds of Beef Recalled

Rancho Feeding Corporation, a Petaluma, Calif. establishment, is recalling approximately 8,742,700 pounds, because it processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspection. Thus, the products are adulterated, because they are unsound, unwholesome or otherwise are unfit for human food and must be removed from commerce, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.

10 million pounds of frozen pizza, snacks recalled in rare E. coli outbreak

I thought I would bring your attention to this recall because these products have been on sale recently and I am sure that some of you have probably bought these.

From their site:
The foods may be contaminated with the bacterium E. coli O121, which already has sickened 27 people in 15 states who ate certain Farm Rich and Market Day frozen chicken quesadillas, pizza slices and other snack foods.

The Thursday announcement expands a March 28 recall of 196,222 pounds of Farm Rich brand frozen chicken quesadillas and other frozen mini meals and snack items because they could be contaminated with E. coli O121.

Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats Recall

Kellogg’s is issuing a voluntary recall due to the possible presence of flexible metal mesh fragments from a faulty manufacturing part. Recalled products include only Frosted Mini-Wheats Bite Size Original and Mini-Wheats Unfrosted Bite Size with the letters KB, AP or FK before or after the Best If Used Before date.

According to some experts, when you cut into the melon...the knife transmits the bacteria from the outside of the melon to the inside.

A salmonella outbreak blamed on cantaloupes grown in Indiana has killed two people and sickened some 141 people in the past month, health officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Friday.

The outbreak, which began in early July, has struck consumers in Indiana, Kentucky and Minnesota. Officials are urging people to throw away cantaloupes bought recently from those areas.

Agricultural experts say the frequent problems with cantaloupes come from the nature of the melons and sloppy agricultural practices. The rough porous skin of the melon is an easy target for bacteria, which clings to the bumps on the surface.

Novartis Consumer Health (NCH) is voluntarily recalling all lots of select bottle sizes of Excedrin® and NoDoz® Alertness Aid products with expiry dates of December 20, 2014 or earlier as well as Bufferin® and Gas-X® Prevention® products with expiry dates of December 20, 2013 or earlier, in the United States.
NCH is taking this action as a precautionary measure, because the products may contain stray tablets, capsules, or caplets from other Novartis products, or contain broken or chipped tablets.
As this is a voluntary recall at the consumer level, Novartis Consumer Health advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use and return them to Novartis Consumer Health for a full refund.

Consumers that have the product(s) being recalled should contact the Novartis Consumer Relationship Center at 1-888-477-2403 (available Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time) for information on how to return the affected products and receive reimbursement.

The Pictsweet Company of Bells, TN announced a voluntary recall of certain products containing frozen green peas after the company learned that some of the packages may contain glass fragments, which may cause injury if ingested. Whole Foods Market Recalls Bulk Hazelnuts

Whole Foods Market is recalling organic raw hazelnuts (filberts) sold in bulk through its stores in California, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington because the nuts were part of a batch that was contaminated with salmonella.

These hazelnuts should not be consumed. No illnesses have been reported at this time.

Kelloggs Eggo recall

Since there have been some awesome deals on Eggo's lately; I just wanted to let you know about this recall.

A number of Kellogg’s products are being voluntarily recalled after inspectors found Listeria monocytogenes in a sample of buttermilk Eggo waffles made an at Atlanta plant, the Georgia Department of Agriculture said today.

The sample was taken during a routine inspection at the Kellogg’s plant at 5601 Bucknell Dr. in Atlanta. This product was not shipped into the marketplace, and no illness has been reported.
“Out of an abundance of caution, Kellogg’s is voluntarily recalling a limited number of the following products produced in the same facility,” the department said in a statement. The recalled products are Eggo Cinnamon Toast waffles sold in packages of 10 with the UPC code 3800040440 and labeled with “Best If Used Before” dates beginning with: NOV22 10 EA, NOV23 10 EA and NOV24 10 EA. Also being recalled are Eggo Toaster Swirlz Cinnamon Roll Minis sold in packages of eight, with the UPC code 3800023370 and “Best If Used Before” dates beginning with NOV15 10 EA.
