I call her several times a week and we get to see each other when we can--recently there was a scare with her medications, and I was unable to talk to her for a couple of weeks; so I started reminiscing and going through some things that she had given me years ago--I have been through this box many times, but this time I discovered something that I had never seen before.
It was several pieces of paper stapled together, and in the middle of those papers were several more pieces of paper that had been folded up and kind of 'stuck' in there. When I unfolded the papers and realized what was on those papers--I just sat there and cried.
In my mother's handwriting, were recipes--recipes that turned out good, recipes that flopped (in her opinion) and tips on how to prevent those recipes from "Flopping" a second time. Ideas for keeping foods fresh longer and just a whole bunch of other things--many things I have never even thought of before reading those papers.
On the very back of those papers my mother had written "Give to my little girl on her wedding day" ---dated June 1976. --- In 1976 I was four years old!
There are too many good ideas to keep to myself, so, occasionally I will be sharing these ideas with you in posts titled "Cooking Tips from Betty."
