Walgreens 101

I received an email from a friend of mine wanting me to explain the whole Walgreens Shopping thing, coupons, Register Rewards .....how and when to use them. So I am going to try to do my best and explain what I do at Walgreens. I am sure that there are many more experienced shoppers out there that could do a better job explaining this, but this is what works for me.

I've been shopping at Walgreens for a while now and have found some really great deals there. They have some excellent bargains, combine those bargains with coupons, and Register Rewards and that all = a GREAT DEAL!

OK, so here goes!

1) Coupon "Stacking" - The weekly store fliers include a number of store coupons which are good all week. Since these are store coupons, they can be "stacked" with manufacturer's coupons, meaning you can use both a store coupon and a manufacturer's coupon on one item. You'll be able to get a really great deal by stacking a store coupon, a manufacturer's coupon, and a store sale.

2) Register Rewards - (better known on this blog as RR's) The Register Rewards program rewards you for buying certain items each week. When you buy the item or items which are advertised as producing a Register Reward, you will get a printed coupon after you checkout called "Register Rewards" which you can use like cash on your next purchase.
They usually have a few of these items per week; some which are completely free after Register Rewards. By using a store coupon and/or a manufacturer's coupon when buying a Register Reward item, you are often able to get the item for more-than-free, free, or almost free after the Register Rewards.

The Register Rewards (RR's) are not tied to a store card; they just print out for everyone who buys that particular item or items that week. Because of this, there are no limits on how many of that one deal you can do.

Tips for getting more bang for your buck when shopping at WAGS!

1.) You must have as many items as you have coupons.
Example, you are buying 5 items and you have 5 manufacturer's coupons, 2 in ad coupons (found in Walgreen's weekly flyer)--a total of 7 coupons. The register will probably beep because Walgreen's registers are set up not to take more coupons than you have items, so in this case pick up a few inexpensive fillers...(a candy bar, a pencil, or ruler.) ALSO remember that RR's count as a coupon.

2.) The order you give your coupons in is very important.
When using coupons at Walgreens, I have found that if you give the Register Rewards first, then manufacture's coupons, then in ad coupons the registers are less likely to beep. Also if the cashier cannot get the coupon to go through, then kindly ask for the manager and more than likely he/she can get it to go through (or maybe I should say LET IT GO THROUGH!)
If I have left something out then please leave a comment and let me know what works for you.
