ECONOMICAL RECIPES

Whether or not you are feeling the impact of today's economy, I thought that I would list some recipes that are fun and inexpensive to make. Most of the ingredients found in these recipes are ingredients that you would already have in your pantry.

CHOCOLATE GRAVY

2 c. water
5 T. flour
2 c. sugar
5 T. cocoa

Cook to a medium boil. Serve over hot biscuits or bananas.
My children love this over bananas.

COCOA SYRUP:

1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. hot water
2 tsp. vanilla

Mix well. Cook in pan for 5 minutes on med. heat. Cool completely. Refrigerate. Serve over ice cream or mix in milk as a chocolate drink.

SAW MILL GRAVY:

2 T. flour
Oil
Milk

Put enough grease to cover bottom of pan. Add 2 heaping tablespoons of flour. Brown it. Add milk to desired consistency.

ONION RINGS:

1 c. plain flour
1 c. milk
1 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp.salt
onion - thickly sliced into rings

Whisk all together and let the batter set for 30 minutes. Soak onions in cold water and shake off any excess water. Dip onions in batter and deep - fry.

NO BAKE COOKIES:

2 c. sugar
3 T. cocoa
1 stick margarine
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. peanut butter
3 1/2 c. oatmeal
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook sugar, cocoa, margarine and milk until mixture comes to a boil. Remove from heat and add peanut butter, oatmeal and vanilla. Stir until creamy and drop on wax paper. You should let these set for a few minutes but my husband and kids like them warm and usually gobble them up.

EASY COOKIES:

1 box any kind of cake mix
1 egg
16-oz. carton of cool whip

Mix cake mix, cool whip, and one egg together. Roll into small balls. Bake until golden brown. Cool.
These cookies are so easy and super cheap to make and not to mention YUMMY!
